Police Athletic League ( P.A.L. )
Police Athletic League exists for the
purpose of providing quality after school programs
that enhance both the life of the youth and their
families. The method in which P.A.L.meets the needs of its participants is through
mentoring, academic tutorials, organized sports,
youth and family counseling services. Since its
conception, we have been able to serve youth and
families from Iredell and neighboring counties.
We also have collaborated with other organizations
such as Iredell-Statesville Schools and. Iredell-Statesville
Schools Big Brothers/Big Sisters SPARKS program,
Big Brothers, PDYF Success Institute Charter School,
other community organizations. It is a network organization
of Positive Direction for Youth & Families whose
headquarters are in Greensboro, with sites in Sanford
and Statesville.

The P.A.L. Program
has professional athletes who have donated time
and resources to the center. They include Anthony
Pleasant formerly of New England Patriots, Michael
Dean Perry formerly of Cleveland Browns, Greg Briggs
formerly of the Dallas Cowboys, and Germaine Crowell
formerly of the New Orleans Saints, and others.

The programs that underway at P.A.L. are the fall football
program, year-round basketball tournaments and league.
Through collaborating with Success Institute Charter
School, many of our youth participate in golf, soccer,
and swimming. The events that are being added to
the Police Athletic League during the summer of 2006
include competitive chess, robotics through the
NASA Program, tennis, and volleyball. Champ Camp,
the summer camp program consists of the five major
sports, basketball, volleyball, football, soccer
and track.

The Police Athletic League places
a high priority on academics and uses it as a prerequisite
for youth to participate in any of the P.A.L. programs. We encourage youth to become academic
achievers through special tutorials for those who
are not up to par.
P.A.L. is opened daily
after school to 9 pm, holidays. Midnight basketball
is sponsored for those who are not in school to
help keep them from being out in the streets
at night
and to encourage them to be productive citizens.
